the fourth day, at daylight, thefriendly scout made his reappearance at thecabin of Manor, and told himx that the Indianswould be there at ten oclock, pointing to theplace where the sun would be at that hour.Manor was anxious, knowing that all wouldbe massacred that could be found when theIndians should arrive. He urged his wife tofeed the scout bountifully, while he made anexcuse to the Indian and hurriedly crossedthe river, arousing his still sleeping neighbors,many of whom were women and children,who joined Manor in entreaties to fly atonce. They succeeded in getting started a littleafter sunrise, their route running through theBlack Swamp in the direction of Fort Find-lay and passing through a small prairie, whereManor and others had been cutting hay. The chiefs at once demanded to knowwhere the white men were, and were toldthat they had been gone several days.
