The inventor of the language, Sonja Lang, reports that over 3,000 copies of her book have been sold, which teaches Toki Pona. There is a private group on Facebook where discussion happens exclusively in Toki Pona, i.e. without English, and there are 486 active members. The general Toki Pona discussion group on Facebook has 3238 members, who regularly discuss in Toki Pona or about Toki Pona.
The growth in the number of Toki Pona speakers is reflected by the many respectable news outlets who have written features about Toki Pona or at least mentioned Toki Pona, such as Business Insider, The Guardian, the Globe and Mail, the Atlantic, The New Yorker."
